Cross-training Doctoral School
Transversal courses open to all PhD students are offered each year by the College of Doctoral Schools of the University of Strasbourg.
You can consult the list of transversal courses of the College of Doctoral Schools
To register, visit your AMETHIS profile . For training organized by the ED, an attendance sheet will be signed on site and the validation will be done later by amethis site. If you have followed courses offered by the College of Doctoral Schools, you can edit your summary by logging into your personal space on the CDE website. This summary will feed your intranet counter of the site of the doctoral school, so you do not need to have the training validated.
The French as a foreign language course should automatically be part of the 1st year cross-training of PhD students who do not speak French yet.
Registration for the different courses is done only through the “student” address (in the form: firstname.lastname@etu.unistra.fr).
The instructor service will be counted for 8 hours of transversal training per year of monitoring.
PhD students are required to take 54 hours of professional opening courses on the duration of the thesis.

Certification in English (TOEIC)
The Doctoral College is organizing a session of the TOEIC® Listening and Reading test on Monday, 9 December 2019 from 17h00 to 20h00 at Amphithéâtre 6 at Institut Le Bel. This test certifies oral and written comprehension skills in professional and international English at intermediate and advanced levels. It allows an exact assessment of the skills of non-English speaking candidates in oral and written comprehension as well as in grammar. The test constitutes a certificate of competence recognized by professionals.
Interested candidates are requested to register with the ED secretariat by Monday, November 23, 2018. Preparation for the exams is the responsibility of the PhD student.

Communication to Congress
The PhD student must have presented in person at least one communication – oral or by poster – at a national or international congress or conference.
The ED provides financial support, once during the thesis, up to 600 euros maximum to teams whose doctoral students participate in a conference or a workshop, and present an oral communication or poster.
Procedure to be followed:
The PhD student submits a financial request to the ED director by sending the request form duly filled in and signed, together with the program, the confirmation of participation with an oral communication or poster (to validate the relevance of the event and/or the budget available for the year).

The financial request is examined by the ED director: the ED secretariat inform the PhD student of the outcome of the request, and of the allocated amount.
The student ask to his institute the fees advance.
Upon receipt of the financial proofs (bills and travel expenses) the institute will get in contact with the ED secretariat and confirm the PhD mobility.
The ED will reimburse (only) to the institute.
To get more information, please contact the manager of your research unit and the secretariat of the ED.
Do not forget that this support is only possible within the limit of the credits approved each year for this purpose by the ED.

“Introduction to the Unix Shell & Version Control with Git” – 27 & 28 January 2026 at IPHC (Amphithéâtre Grünewald, Bât. 25, Cronenbourg campus, Strasbourg).
You will learn to use the Unix command‐line to navigate and manipulate files, automate repetitive tasks, and then apply version control with Git to track, share and reproduce your work.

Mondays 13, 20 27 January and 03 February 2025 (8:15 to 12:00) : Cross-disciplinary training “Innovation” by Robert GRESSER
The course aims at sensibilizing students how research in laboratories can match and evolve towards innovations relevant for industrial applications and be developed from ideas to start-up companies.
Details and goals of the four training sessions
Training in English – 15 hours counted/validated in cross-disciplinary training upon participation into the four sessions
Venue : Auditorium, IPCMS, 23 rue Loess, Strasbourg
Friday 31 May 2024 – 14h00 to 18h00 : a special afternoon dedicated to the perspectives after the PhD. Doctors currently working in private and public sectors will come to share their experience.
Their presentations will be followed by a coffee to allow for more informal discussions
